OH! so you modify the head along with the bigger valves, and 1.73 rockers?

It should be noted that i was making generalizations. Yes, i did specifically mention the HSC head as being "problematic" in terms of shrouding. If you look at the photo's that Mlburgoon posted here quite a while ago, there are even different levels of shrouding within the HSC heads themselves. As such, not all HSC heads are created equally, especially when one includes the two different HSO heads in that category.

Having said that, any machinist that was installing larger valves into these heads would realize that other work needs to be performed to the combustion chamber in order to make this a worthwhile mod. Given the attention to detail that Mlburgoon has displayed in the past, i'm quite certain that he's found a machinist that addresses the valve size / shrouding issue on the whole.

Improving flow in and out of the motor is always beneficial, so long as velocity is maintained. As such, pressurizing the motor via a turbo or supercharger will help the motor to respond even more favorably to the improved breathing capacity of properly modified heads. Not only will the motor draw in and pass more air naturally aspirated, the forced induction set-up can literally "ram" more air into the motor with less turbulence and heat build-up. The end result is even bigger numbers.

Doing one without the other i.e. forced induction without headwork OR headwork without forced induction WILL result in more power than a stock motor, but at the same time, not as much power as could be developed when both are used together. Just keep in mind that normally aspirated motors vs motors utilizing some type of forced induction require different levels of fuel management and cam timing. To take that a step further, optimal cam design is even different between turbo'd and supercharged motors. Obviously, it is best to figure out what path one is going to travel down and plan accordingly. That is, if one wants to minimize unplanned expenses and negative "surprises" in the end result. Sean

I can NOT stress this enough. Anyone interested in "building" a motor for street use NEEDS to read this book.

I re-purchased* this as a used book for $3 in January of 2008 from Amazon. Since more and more people are finding out about it, the used value has done nothing but gone up. well i really appreciate all of the information. but im probably not going to even keep the 2.3L i just want to get that motor running right so i can get back and forth to school. i actually plan on swapping the 3.0L v6 and a 5 speed. i found a website that does stroker kits, head, cams and all kinds of good stuff the the V6. i also want to run a turbo but idk if i have enough room for piping and other stuff might just supercharge it.
